Here is a link to the program I mentioned in class: yesterday’s edition of On Point with Tom Ashbrook discussing male sexual abuse in light of Scott Brown’s memoir. There are links to listen to the show (it’s about an hour long and is a conversation among experts, the host, and survivors who call into the show), to the Oprah Winfrey special that is mentioned, and to websites for survivors. There is also a conversation in the comments section.
“How I Learned to Drive” takes this issue head on in a very different way, and it’s worth thinking about how a play takes on an issue and presents it to an audience, versus the more traditional route presented through the link above. Despite the difference, HILtD comes to many of the same conclusions, especially in its presentation of L’il Bit as a survivor.
